Job Specification: Heavy Rigging Manager

Location: Pinetown, KZN
Department: Heavy Rigging / Lifting

Job Purpose:

To manage and oversee all operations within the Heavy Rigging Department, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with company policies and procedures. The role requires strong leadership, financial oversight, and technical expertise to deliver high-quality rigging services to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Staff Management

· Recruit and onboard suitable candidates for vacant positions.

· Identify training needs and arrange upskilling initiatives for staff.

· Conduct performance reviews and staff evaluations regularly.

· Maintain staff discipline according to the company Code of Conduct.

· Conduct quarterly KPI reviews for all HR staff.

2. Expense Management

· Develop and manage the expense budget for the Heavy Rigging Department.

· Source reputable suppliers for operational support at project sites.

· Obtain competitive quotes, place orders, and supervise service execution.

· Authorise supplier invoices and report concerns to the GM.

· Oversee employee working hours in compliance with company wage policies.

· Maintain strict control over equipment costs and allocation.

· Ensure all supplier documentation is submitted to Head Office by month-end.

3. Income Management

· Develop and manage the department’s income budget.

· Prepare accurate yet competitive job costing calculations.

· Maintain an up-to-date HR control spreadsheet with signed job sheets.

· Ensure clients complete the company credit application and accept T&Cs.

· Obtain official purchase orders and company details for each job.

· Offer All Risks Insurance to every client and document requirements in writing.

· Establish appropriate payment terms based on client risk profiles.

· Submit invoices to clients at month-end and monitor payment collections.

4. Project Management

· Conduct site visits to assess project scope and requirements.

· Oversee the preparation of cost-effective and technically sound proposals.

· Submit professionally presented quotations in the company format.

· Assign responsible personnel to key positions.

· Maintain a daily updated Project Tracking sheet for all jobs.

· Ensure fair resource allocation across divisions.

· Conduct job completion analysis for every project.

5. Sales and Marketing

· Proactively seek new business opportunities.

· Propose marketing and advertising strategies to the GM.

· Monitor newspapers and online platforms for potential leads.

· Attend business functions, meetings, and networking events.

· Build and maintain strong client relationships.

· Maintain regular communication with clients on completed and upcoming work.

· Distribute newsletters and marketing material to promote the company.

· Secure new projects aligned with the company’s service offerings.

· Submit weekly forecasts based on the income budget.

· Ensure sales targets are set, communicated, and monitored.

· Verify all quotes are uploaded to Mfiles or equivalent systems, ensuring the correct sales procedure is followed.

6. Asset Management

· Oversee maintenance and upkeep of premises and report to the GM.

· Ensure timely maintenance and certification of all equipment.

· Respond quickly to breakdowns and take corrective action.

· Maintain an updated Maintenance Plan and Rigging Gear Register.

· Ensure all lifting gear and machinery inspections are conducted and recorded.

· Maximise equipment utilisation for operational efficiency.

7. Safety Management

· Enforce company safety policies and procedures.

· Plan, lead, and control all job-related activities with a focus on safety.

· Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure OHSACT compliance.

· Ensure all safety signs, gear identification, and premises markings adhere to legal requirements.

· Maintain a zero-injury incident rate within the Heavy Rigging Department.

Key Requirements:

· Proven experience in heavy rigging and lifting operations.

· Strong leadership and people management skills.

· Ability to manage budgets and financial reporting.

· Technical expertise in rigging equipment and project planning.

· Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

· Knowledge of OHSACT regulations and safety best practices.

· Ability to develop and implement business growth strategies.

· Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools.

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: R40 000,00 - R50 000,00 per month
