Job Title: Depot Manager

Location: Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal
Industry: Rigging / Heavy lifting

Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently manage the operational requirements of the Richards Bay department, including staff, costs, customer relations, and resources, to maximize equipment utilization and business opportunities to the benefit of the Company.

Key Responsibilities

1. Staff Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performance team aligned with market demands.
  • Ensure optimal workforce planning, recruitment, and training to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Implement performance management processes to drive accountability and productivity.

2. Expense Management

  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within approved budgets.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to senior management.

3. Logistics & Operations Management

  • Oversee and manage all work executed by the Richards Bay Department, ensuring efficiency and service excellence.
  • Optimize resource allocation, scheduling, and job execution to maximize productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and safety standards.

4. Asset & Equipment Management

  • Maintain and ensure optimal utilization of all equipment and tools within the department.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend asset lifespan.
  • Manage procurement, inventory control, and asset tracking processes.

5. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through training, awareness programs, and adherence to industry best practices.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Business Growth & Market Share: Drive market share, increase client base, and manage customer relationships in the greater Richards Bay area.
  • Financial Performance: Monitor and manage departmental expenditure in alignment with budgetary guidelines.
  • Workforce Management: Maintain a skilled and motivated workforce, including drivers, operators, riggers, and assistants.
  • Safety Compliance: Foster and maintain a robust safety culture within the operational team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Operations Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in operations or logistics management, preferably in the rigging / heavy lifting industry.
  • Strong leadership experience, managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proven track record of financial and budgetary management.
  • Extensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
