JOB DESCRIPTION: JUNIOR DRAUGHTSMAN

Location: Durban, Prospecton Area

Technical Manager

Job Purpose

To convert ideas and concepts into accurate, detailed technical drawings for alternative construction buildings, providing manufacturing and rental blueprints for prefabricated and modular structures.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

• Manage and prioritise all drawing requests in line with agreed turnaround times, escalating issues to the Technical Manager where required.
• Review drawing requests and prepare proposal drawings for quotations using AutoCAD and Inventor, including revisions where necessary.
• Compile, update, and revise rental unit drawings when changes occur, ensuring the latest versions are uploaded and available on the drawing register.
• Save and manage all drawings in accordance with the Drawings Document Control Procedure.
• Receive signed documentation and prepare Batch and Project Instruction Sheets for manufacturing purposes.
• Chair kick-off meetings with sales representatives to review batch and project instructions and discuss technical drawing requirements.
• Issue technical specifications to the Buying / Procurement Department.
• Compile and distribute complete CAD drawing sets for Production and Procurement Departments via the approved document management platform.
• Compile Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical, plumbing, panels, and loose parts.
• Manage the issuing of drawings for chassis manufacture, including reviewing all related documentation for quality control compliance.
• Prepare Quality Control Plans for chassis and volumetric buildings.
• Identify and recommend improvements to departmental procedures and policies relating to the Quality Management System.

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent computer and IT proficiency
• Technically minded with strong attention to detail
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Inventor
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Sound decision-making ability
• Strong organisational and time-management skills

Qualifications & Experience

• Formal qualification in AutoCAD and Inventor
• Proven experience in a draughting role
• Knowledge of alternative building construction methods
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications, including SharePoint
